Peterborough chairman hits out at St Johnstone over Stevie May

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has criticised St Johnstone over his club's bid for Stevie May.

MacAnthony insists that he will not change his offer for the 20-year-old Scotland Under-21 striker.

And the Posh chairman has taken to Twitter to voice his frustration at public comments from the Perth club.

"Jeez, like how many press articles has the St Johnstone manager done about S May & us. Enough already as its getting silly," he tweeted.

May signed a new one-year contract with the Perth club this summer after spending last season on loan to Hamilton Academical in Division One.

He scored in Saints' 4-0 Scottish Premiership win over Ross County on Saturday, taking his total to three in seven competitive games this season.

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright said on Saturday that the Perth club is no nearer to knowing whether May will be at McDiarmid Park beyond August as a result of Peterborough's interest.

Wright said he had urged his own chairman to hand the English League One club a deadline as he did not want to lose the player immediately before the closure of the transfer window.

However, MacAnthony has now hit back in an attempt to clarify the situation with a series of tweets, claiming St Johnstone have made demands for all of the transfer fee to be paid this year.

"As revealed by him, yes, we put bids in for said player," he said. "They rejected them, sent us their terms, we met all terms bar how they want money paid.

"They want it all in this budget year. We never do our business that way as we have told them and have % rules etc to work within.

"Posh will not be changing final offer made last week and no amount of press articles will make a difference."
