Kevin Lisbie: Leyton Orient must build on winning start

Striker Kevin Lisbie says Leyton Orient are determined to make the most of their impressive start to the season.

The east Londoners sit top of the League One table after winning their opening three fixtures.

He told BBC London 94.9: "We have that belief in ourselves and we are going to give it a right go this season.

"I think it starts from last season when we finished three points off the play-offs. It is the same group and we were disappointed we didn't make it."

The O's have previously been slow starters under manager Russell Slade, failing to win any of their opening three league games in each of the last three seasons.

"We didn't win for our first three games last season and felt that was the reason we didn't make the top six," the 34-year-old said.

"Winning our first three league games is good and is good to see yourself up there.

"To win on Saturday [at home to Crewe] will prove we are actually contenders.

"I know it is easier said than done but it is down to us now to maintain it and stay up there.

"If we are up there in January there will be a bit of pressure but right now we are just looking to get points on the table."

If Orient are to sustain their challenge, the former Charlton, Colchester and Ipswich man says they must hope they do not suffer too many injuries to their small squad.

"We have got a good squad here but we will have to be careful," Lisbie continued.

"Last season our problem was as the Saturday-Tuesday games came along we got a few injuries and that stopped us.

"Hopefully we will learn from that and rest people when they need to be rested, but at the moment with us top of the league we don't want to rest anyone and everyone wants to play.

"We will have to look to the heaven above and pray we don't get some injuries in positions that will hurt us."
