Andy Williams: Yeovil re-sign Swindon striker on loan

Swindon striker Andy Williams has rejoined Yeovil on a year-long loan.

The 27-year-old was the Glovers' top scorer in the 2011-12 season, netting 17 goals in 39 games, but rejected a club-record contract offer from boss Gary Johnson last summer.

Williams went on to join the Robins on a free transfer and has scored 13 times in 52 matches.

The forward has played in all four of the Robins' games this season, scoring once against Torquay in the League Cup.

"The chance to come back down and play Championship football meant it was a quick decision for me," he told BBC Somerset.

Williams first joined Yeovil from Bristol Rovers in 2010, having previously played for his hometown club, Hereford.

Upon his departure from Huish Park last year, Williams said his decision was not prompted by money but by a desire to further his career.

Swindon were tipped for promotion last term, but it was Yeovil who secured a place in the Championship via the play-offs, with Swindon falling at the semi-final stage.

And the new board at the County Ground have had to reduce their budget to fit in with Football League's Financial Fair Play rules.

"At the end of last season I had a few offers on the table and my ambition was to play in the Championship," added Williams.

"I thought the most likely way of doing that was to go to Swindon. I don't think anyone could have foreseen what happened at Yeovil last season.

"Thankfully all the guys here proved us wrong. It's a credit to all the staff here.

"My ambition was to play in the Championship and I've now been given a chance."
