Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay says they are still working hard to bring in one more "quality" player before the transfer window closes on Monday.

The Premier League new boys beat Manchester City 3-2 on Sunday but Mackay wants one more key signing.

MacKay has denied making a bid for Herenveen striker Alfred Finbogasson, while they have been linked with a loan bid for Barcelona forward Isaac Cuenca.

"We would like to at least get one more [player] in," Mackay said.

"But it's not easy because they have to be players that bring more quality, rather than the quantity of bringing three or four people in in the last week and just filling up a squad.

"I've got good players here, I've got very good players here, whoever comes in has to add to that.

"That being the case, we are still trying, we are under competition from other [clubs] because that's what good players bring.

"But we're trying hard and we're going to make sure we do everything we can right up to Monday."

Cardiff face Accrington Stanley on Wednesday night in the second round of the Capital One Cup, then return to league action against Everton at home on 31 August.
