Price of Football: Accrington cheapest League Two day out

Accrington Stanley offer the cheapest day out in League Two, according to the BBC Sport Price of Football.

Their cheapest adult match-day ticket costs £13, a £1 reduction on the fourth tier's corresponding ticket from last season, which was at Burton Albion.

A day out at the Store First Stadium - a ticket, a programme, a cup of tea and a pie - would cost an adult £19.50.

Stanley are one of only four clubs in the Football League to offer a match-day experience for £20 or under.

Accrington chairman Peter Marsden told BBC Sport: "We want as many people as possible to be able to come and become part of Accrington Stanley. Our aim at the start of the season was to encourage people to come through the turnstiles by making the pricing realistic.

"Whether through season-ticket prices being cut or the on-the-day admission reduced, we hoped to make coming to Stanley more affordable in what are tough economic times."

Only three other Football League clubs - Derby County and Huddersfield in the Championship and League One team Sheffield United - offer cheaper days out.

The BBC Price of Football study looked at 166 clubs in 10 divisions across British football, including the Conference Premier and Women's Super League.

It found five League Two clubs - Bury, Mansfield, Plymouth, Portsmouth and Southend - have one ticket price no matter where a fan watches from in their stadium.

Hartlepool, relegated from League One last season, have the lowest-priced adult season ticket at £150, with Bristol Rovers offering the most expensive at £500.

The cheapest season-ticket prices overall in League Two have dropped 7.6% on last season.

Apart from Accrington, Wycombe are the only club in League Two both this season and last to lower their cheapest adult match-day ticket prices over the summer. In 2012-2013, it cost £18 to visit Adams Park. Now it is £17.

Ben Campbell, the club's head of media, told BBC Sport: "Given the economic climate and the fact the club is now fan-owned, together with the aim of making live football more affordable to watch, the decision was taken to reduce prices in certain areas."

Newly promoted sides Newport County and Mansfield have raised their cheapest adult prices by 38% and 33% respectively on last season. It would have cost £13 to visit Newport on a match day in the 2012-13 season and £15 to visit Field Mill, the same tickets will now set an adult back £18 and £20 respectively.

At £2.00, Rochdale have the cheapest pies in the whole of the Football League while seven clubs have the most expensive, priced at £3.
