Prince Abdullah 'looked at other clubs'

New Sheffield United co-owner Prince Abdullah bin Mosaad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has given his support to boss David Weir.

The Saudi invested in the League One side at the start of last week.

Weir's side are currently 19th in League One with just four points from their opening six league games.

"Of course he is safe. I read a lot about him before I got here and I was very impressed when I met him," Prince Abdullah told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"A coach is as good as his players so you have to give him the best tools and then when we have done that hopefully he will be successful.

"We have to trust our coach."

Former Rangers and Scotland defender Weir was appointed Blades boss in the summer but after winning his opening league game against Notts County, he has seen his side draw one and lose four of their next five games.

Prince Abdullah is keen to see the Bramall Lane club back in the Premier League - a level they last played at in 2006-07 - within five years but acknowledged patience would be important.

"The journey starts now and who knows where it will end?" he said.

"I want to learn everything I can about the club in the next six to nine months. I want to see a lot of games and get educated about the city and the team.

"I know this will not be an easy journey but we will deal with the ups and downs and take the club back to where it belongs."
