Martin Jol: Fulham manager urges calm after calls to quit

Fulham manager Martin Jol has taken responsibility for his side's latest defeat but urged calm from fans calling for him to leave.

The Cottagers lost 2-1 at home to Cardiff on Saturday and are 18th in the league with just one win this season.

"I'll always be calm, but I hate it when people are getting worried and nervous, especially when they ask a manager to quit," said Jol.

"That is awful, because you never know what will happen with a new manager."

Jordon Mutch's injury-time goal sealed Cardiff's first away win since their return to the top flight after Fulham's Bryan Ruiz had cancelled out Steven Caulker's opener.

Jol's side have taken only one point from their last seven matches at Craven Cottage - the last coming on April 1 against QPR, who were relegated - and there were jeers directed at the manager from the home crowd at full-time.

"If we are bottom of the table at the end of the season it's not about me, because I won't be here," Jol added. "It's about the club and I don't want to see this club at the bottom of the table.

"They (the fans) expect us to do better. If you are in the bottom three or bottom five - even if it's early in the season - you get pressure.

"I take responsibility because I can't say that the players don't work hard."
