Leeds United: Matt Smith hopes to build on Birmingham City goals

Leeds United striker Matt Smith is hopeful he can continue his form after scoring two goals in the win over Birmingham City.

Smith's double, in his first league start for the club, helped the Elland Road side to a comprehensive 4-0 win over Blues on Sunday.

He told BBC Radio Leeds: "I hope to keep this going because consistency is what makes a good player great.

"I'll enjoy this moment but I have to come back fighting for the next game."

The 24-year-old joined Leeds from Oldham in the summer but his only starts for the club before Sunday had all come in the Capital One Cup.

Brian McDermott made four changes to the side that had lost 3-1 at Derby in their last outing and Smith felt the team benefited from a change in style.

"It's always pleasing to see what you work on in the training ground get replicated on the pitch," he said.

"We got the ball out wide and got crosses into the box. We got in behind them and had willing runners from all over the park so that was good to see."

Leeds, who had lost five of their last six games, have now moved up to ninth ahead of the derby with Huddersfield on Saturday.
