Hibs manager Pat Fenlon defiant after Cup loss to Hearts

Under-fire Hibernian boss Pat Fenlon remained defiant despite the League Cup defeat by Hearts at Easter Road.

Hibs paid dearly for missed chances as Ryan Stevenson fired their rivals into the last four of the competition.

And some Hibs supporters protested outside the stadium following the Edinburgh derby loss.

"I don't feel under pressure," said Fenlon. "I said when I took the job that if I can take the team forward I would do my best to do that."

Hibs found Hearts keeper Jamie MacDonald in inspirational form and were also denied by the woodwork in a whirlwind opening 25 minutes.

But they were unable to respond to Stevenson's goal, sparking frustration among the Hibs support.

"It's not about pressure. I've worked tremendously hard to try to put things right," he said.

"We've brought in some good players. We will sit down and take stock and have a look at it.

"There's no problem with the fans. They are right to do that, they are angry because we have lost tonight.

"You understand that, it's part of football. The supporters are disappointed, they've lost to their big rivals and they've gone out of the cup.

"I understand that, I can understand their frustrations. It's part and parcel of the game."

Fenlon felt his side deserved credit for their display, despite losing the derby.

"Our first-half performance was different class and we created so many chances," he added.

"We are just disappointed we've got nothing from the game."
