AFC Bournemouth: Tokelo Rantie joy at ending goal drought

Bournemouth striker Tokelo Rantie spoke of his joy after scoring his first goal since his record transfer from Malmo.

Rantie, 23, went eight games without a goal but found the net in spectacular style on Saturday as the Cherries drew 1-1 with Championship leaders Burnley.

And the South Africa international hopes it will be the first of many.

"It will massively help me, it will give me confidence and will allow me to implement my game more," Rantie told BBC Radio Solent.

Rantie scored in the 50th minute, with Danny Ings striking a late equaliser for the Clarets.

He added: "I have to help the team and deliver for them so I can help them.

"I always knew my chance would come, I have never struggled to get goals and this is beginning, hopefully."

And the South African dedicated the goal to manager Eddie Howe and his strike partner on Saturday, Brett Pitman.

"It was a great strike and the execution was very good," he said.

"The coach has been working with me all along since I arrived and I'm very grateful that I've shown him that whatever we work on I can put into action.

"Without their (the coaching team's) help, guidance and motivation this type of goal would not have happened."

He added: "It's all thanks to Brett, he has been encouraging me and telling me to shoot and take them on and I thought about it when I got the goal.

"I did not expect it to go in, to be honest, so I am very grateful to score."

Rantie, who says he is settling into life in Bournemouth well, also believes the Cherries fully deserved their point against the league's early pace setters.

"It's not easy to come here and play the way we did," he said.

"The coach was kind of emotional for us to put in a performance like that. We prepared hard and we deserved to get the point.

"We are pleased to get a point, it's a confidence booster for all of us taking into consideration these guys are the league leaders.

"Now we need to push on and keep going and try to implement this type of performance in out next game."
