Premier League predictions: Lawro v Jim Kerr of Simple Minds

BBC Sport expert Mark Lawrenson

BBC Sport's football expert Mark Lawrenson is pitting his wits against a different guest each week this season.

This week he takes on Simple Minds frontman Jim Kerr.

Kerr is a Celtic fan, who watches Arsenal when he is London and also has a long-term love of Italian football.

"I don't play any more unfortunately but enjoyed myself down the years - the band and the crew had a team and would play other bands or journalists," he told BBC Sport.

"That was always good fun, unless you came up against Iron Maiden who were very good. Then it could be difficult. Depeche Mode were not bad either but I remember giving UB40 a hiding.

"Why Celtic? It was all to do with growing up in Glasgow which, as most people will know, is a football-mad city.

"I was brought up in a Celtic family and was a fan from a very young age. I am very proud to say my first game was a pre-season friendly in 1966 when Manchester United came to Glasgow and I saw us beat the United side of George Best, Bobby Charlton and Denis Law."

Simple Minds are in the middle of a world tour that saw them play three gigs in Brazil in October and Kerr thinks next year's World Cup will be a special tournament.

"I am probably the only Scotsman who will be in Brazil for the next few months."

For the midweek Premier League programme, Lawro got five results right, with two perfect scores. His score of nine gave him victory over former Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes, who got six correct results, but with no exact scores.

We're keeping a record of the total scores for Lawro and his guests (below), and showing a table of how the Premier League would look if all of Lawro's predictions were correct (also at the bottom of the page).
