Wolverhampton Wanderers have recalled Liam McAlinden from his loan spell at League One rivals Shrewsbury Town.

The 20-year-old striker scored three goals in nine appearances since joining the Shrews in October.

Wolves cut his three-month loan short ahead of a busy festive period.

"It is the right time to bring Liam back to Wolves to add to the cover and competition in the striking positions," Wolves head of football development Kevin Thelwell said.

MK Dons' visit to Molineux on 14 December is the first of six games in 21 days for the League One high-flyers.

McAlinden netted his first senior goal for Wolves in September's Johnstone's Paint Trophy first round win over Walsall.

He came off the bench when Notts County ended Kenny Jackett's side's run in the competition in October, before joining Shrewsbury.

McAlinden made an immediate impact at New Meadow, scoring his first Football League goal on his debut in the 2-0 win against Gillingham.

Thelwell told the club website, external: "It has been a great experience for him and will certainly have helped his development."
