Killie boss Allan Johnston expects his players to build on their first away win of the season following victory in Dingwall against Ross County.

Kris Boyd's seventh goal of the season earned his side their first win in five games after Chris Johnston's opener was cancelled out by Stuart Kettlewell.

"We've been playing decent football and not quite picking up the results we deserve," said Johnston.

"We've got to take this type of performance into the next game."

Boyd's expert finish into the top corner put Killie back in front ahead of the half-time break and he was denied by the woodwork twice in the second half.

Johnston said the performance from Boyd and the rest of the squad in recent matches has demonstrated their commitment to pushing back up the table and competing for a top-six finish.

"Kris is a top team player and if you have someone of the quality of him up-front, you're likely to get goals," added Johnston.

"We've got good energy about the team - we're passing the ball well and creating chances.

"We defended as a team, and there was a great work rate and effort from the team.

"We're delighted for the fans - they make a great effort to come to the away games, so we're pleased to get a result for them too.

"We've got to build on this performance, there's not much between the top half and the bottom half of the table, so we've just got to make sure we pick up some results."
