Gloucester City have confirmed Stuart Pike will succeed Nigel Hughes as chairman at the Conference North club.

Pike was previously in the position for a short period in 2006 but left to concentrate on his work commitments with the Royal Air Force.

Hughes will officially step down on 31 December after five years in charge.

He was instrumental in helping Gloucester overcome the off-field issues after they lost their Meadow Park home to flooding in 2007.

They been without a permanent stadium since then, playing at Cirencester, Forest Green Rovers and currently Cheltenham Town.

But last week the club moved a step closer to a solution after the Environment Agency approved their scaled-down plans to rebuild on Meadow Park, and the club are now able to proceed with their planning application.

Hughes will remain as a director on the board to oversee the latest ground developments.
