Wigan Athletic recall Rob Kiernan from Southend loan spell

Wigan Athletic have recalled defender Rob Kiernan from his loan spell at League Two club Southend United.

The 22-year-old made 14 appearances for the Shrimpers, having joined for three months in October.

But Latics boss Uwe Rosler took him back to the DW Stadium as cover for Thomas Rogne, who was injured against Birmingham on Boxing Day.

Last season Kiernan played nine times in a loan spell at Brentford, who were then managed by Rosler.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, who has yet to make a first-team appearance for Wigan, was named among the substitutes for Sunday's visit of Burnley.
