Carl Ikeme: Wolves keeper out for six weeks with broken hand

Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has been ruled out for up to six weeks after suffering his second broken hand injury inside a year.

Ikeme, 27, fractured a bone in his left hand in a collision with full-back Scott Golbourne and Tranmere Rovers scorer Ryan Lowe late on in the New Year's Day 1-1 draw at Prenton Park.

Wolves have recalled young Irishman Aaron McCarey from loan at York City.

But Wayne Hennessey is expected to keep goal at Gillingham on Friday night.

The Wales international has not featured for Wolves since suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury in April 2012 - just before Wolves' relegation from the Premier League.

After missing the whole of last season, 26-year-old Hennessey has rediscovered his form and fitness this season out on loan at Championship side Yeovil.

He made 13 appearances for the Glovers, as well as regaining his place as Wales' first-choice keeper.

McCarey, 21, who spent two separate loan spells with Walsall last season, made his Wolves debut in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy earlier this season - ironically against the Saddlers, in a 2-2 draw.

He has since gone out on loan again to York, where he has let in just four goals in five games.

McCarey was due to complete his loan spell with the Minstermen after their game against Dagenham & Redbridge this weekend, but he has been brought back to compete with Hennessey for a place at the Priestfield Stadium, where victory would return Wolves to the top of League One.
