Accrington Stanley A-A Morecambe

Accrington Stanley's League Two game with 10-man Morecambe was abandoned because of a waterlogged pitch.

Non-stop heavy rain from the kick-off made for a scrappy Lancashire derby before causing standing water to appear on the playing surface.

And, with the sides level at 0-0, the players were taken off after 58 minutes by referee James Adcock.

The visitors had been reduced to 10 men before half-time when Alex Kenyon was dismissed for a two-footed tackle.

Accrington manager James Beattie told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"I'm not best pleased about it. The ball stuck once in the second half.

"Yes it was raining, but the pitch was draining at the rate it was raining.

"None of the players were complaining. I think the referee could have given the game more time."

Morecambe manager Jim Bentley told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"The ground staff did great to get it on. Their backroom staff said it was under water yesterday so they've done brilliantly to get it on in the first place.

"The referee pulled myself and James Beattie in and mentioned that he was concerned and that he was going to give it 15 minutes.

"You've got to respect the referee's decision. Some would have carried on, some wouldn't, and that's the way it is."
