More from Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner on Liverpool: "The toughest thing happened at Liverpool with Diogo Jota and his brother. Then we see how unimportant results, transfers and everything else is. And Community Shield, the first competitive game after that, will be under these circumstances.

"Liverpool have showed ambitions in the transfer market and if you are the champion and then you invest this kind of money and bring in top players with a clear profile, it just shows their ambition."

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner on facing Liverpool on Sunday: "We have had time to reflect in the off season and prepare for the new season. When I came back in the competition mood this week, it already feels different.

"Liverpool is a top team and it's much better than playing friendlies. It's a chance to win a trophy and the chance to compete with the champions. We want to show our personality again. We want to show we are able to compete with every single team."

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner on failure to bring in new signings: "Crystal Palace wants to play European football. We want to play four competitions, climb the Premier League table and reproduce the success from last season again. It's just what you have to do. Everybody knows this in the building.

"It helps if players are in early - before we start pre-season. We have to be honest to ourselves. We missed in the last weeks the chance to bring new players in. But I can't complain. We have to deal with what we have."

"The group know how they want to play and we have started on a completely different mindset this time."

"The players did very well in the preseason training. We will accept the final verdict. That's the only thing we can do."

"As coach and players, we can only prepare. But we will definitely play four competitions and preparing well is the only thing we can do."

Chelsea also maintained their track record of spending under their new ownership and has already spent £240m and the Blues are also interested in RB Leipzig's Xavi Simons and Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho.

Arsenal are not far behind with £192.6m spent for players including Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres.

Crystal Palace centre-back Chris Richards says he is "excited" for Sunday's Community Shield despite going into the game as underdogs.

Richards, who signed from Bayern Munich in 2022, became just the third American to win the FA Cup when Palace defeated Manchester City in May.

His sights are now set on making more history and taking more silverware back to South London.

"I am excited," he told BBC Radio London. "It is another chance to win a trophy and anytime you can play for silverware, it means more.

"We will definitely be an underdog going into this game. We've had some good games against Liverpool in the past, so I think that's what gives us confidence going into the game."

Palace face Liverpool in the Community Shield on Sunday before their Premier League opener against Chelsea on Sunday, 17 August.

However, Nketiah will miss the start of the Eagles' captain with the muscular problem.

The former Arsenal striker came off in the pre-season loss to Augsburg on Friday after suffering the complaint.

Crystal Palace's appeal against Uefa's decision to demote them from the Europa League has started at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Co-owner and chairman Steve Parish is in attendance in Switzerland along with six other members of his team.

Palace, who earned their spot in the Europa League by winning the FA Cup, were relegated to the Conference League in July after Uefa ruled they had breached their rules on multi-club ownership.

A decision on the appeal is expected on Monday.

Crystal Palace were demoted to Europe's third competition because American businessman John Textor owned a stake in the club and was the majority owner of French giants Lyon, who also qualified for the Europa League.

Textor, who has since sold his shares in the South London club, has always maintained that he never had decisive influence over the club and had no say in management decisions.

  13. Who have Crystal Palace signed this summer?published at 13:19 British Summer Time

Walter Benitez AND Borna SosaImage source, Getty Images

Oliver Glasner has only signed two players this summer transfer window: Walter Benitez from PSV Eindhoven on a free and Borna Sosa from Ajax for an undisclosed fee.

Benitez is an Argentine goalkeepr who's contracted ended at PSV on 1 July 2025.

The 32-year-old was an ever-present in PSV's league campaign, which they won finishing just one point clear of Ajax. He started 11 of PSV's 12 Champions League fixtures last season, as they reached the last 16 where they fell short to Arsenal.

Sosa is a Croatian defender who plays as a left-sided wing-back who is "capable of influencing matches at both ends of the pitch".

The 27-year-old signed for Ajax in September 2023 but spent last season on loan at Italian Serie A side Torino where he featured in 20 games. He has 26 caps for Croatia, scoring twice and having a vital role when they finished third at the 2022 World Cup.

  15. Premier League leads Europe in transfer spendingspublished at 13:14 British Summer Time

About £4 billion has been spent on transfers by Europe's top five leagues this summer - that is the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and Serie A.

Of this, the Premier League's transfer spending has reached about £1.8b since the transfer window first opened at the start of June.

It is the most amount of money spent by England's top division in history.

Of the total figure, more than £1bn has come from six teams, the traditional so-called 'big six' in the Premier League era - Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham.

Coming in second place are the Serie A clubs, who have spent more than £700m on transfers this summer with the Italian league's top arrival, Ardon Jashari, joining AC Milan for about £31m.

Luis Diaz's £65.5m transfer from Liverpool to Bayern Munich is the most expensive buy by a Bundesliga club so far with the German sides splurging more than £500m in purchases already.

La Liga has spent around £425m in incoming with Dean Huijsen's £50m move from Bournemouth to Real Madrid the most expensive transfer into the Spanish top flight.

Ligue 1 clubs, meanwhile, have spent a total of about £300m on new players this summer.

  16. Three matchweeks before window shutspublished at 13:13 British Summer Time

Imagine your club being outplayed by opponents during the opening weeks of the new Premier League season - all the optimism for a new campaign quickly replaced by concerns and questions.

But there is no real need to panic as the clubs can still dip into the transfer market to bolster their squads with the window open past the first three matchdays of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.

The transfer window will close on 1 September after the first three sets of Premier League fixtures - with the Liverpool and Arsenal facing each other in the final game of the third round on 31 August.

But the fans will have a frustrating wait until mid-September to see their deadline day signings, if any, in action because of the first international break of the season.

The Premier League only resumes on 13 September after a near two-week absence where you can keep yourself busy by tuning into some World Cup qualifiers.

Leicester City have confirmed that an agreement has been reached with Turkish side Besiktas for the permanent transfer of midfielder Wilfred Ndidi in a deal worth a reported £8m.

"Having arrived as a promising 20-year-old, Wilf departs as a seasoned international with the admiration of team-mates, staff and supporters alike for his efforts and achievements in a Leicester City shirt," Leicester said in a statement.

"He leaves with the sincere thanks and best wishes of everyone at Leicester City for the next chapter of his career."

Each of the three newly promoted teams - Burnley, Leeds United and Sunderland - are in the top 10 of biggest spenders so far this summer.

Sunderland are seventh and have spent over £120m on new players, although they sold Jobe Bellingham and Tom Watson, recouping about £37m.

Burnley have added 12 players to their squad, at a total cost of just under £90m, while Leeds United have spent close to £75m for their seven new signings.

Fulham are the only Premier League side yet to spend anything this summer, while Crystal Palace's only paid purchase has been Ajax left-back Borna Sosa for £2m.
