Tranmere ran out comfortable winners over Coventry in their first game without suspended boss Ronnie Moore.

Ryan Lowe opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Billy Daniels brought down Matthew Pennington.

Sky Blues captain Carl Baker had two shots saved in quick succession, but Conor Thomas then headed into his own net to double the hosts' lead.

Jake Kirby slotted in Matthew Kennedy's cross for 3-0, before Michael Petrasso pulled one back with a low strike.

Tranmere boss Moore was suspended by the club on Monday, external pending the conclusion of a Football Association investigation into a potential breach of betting rules.

Sky Blues manager Steven Pressley told BBC Radio Coventry and Warwickshire:

"Not good enough. That's my assessment. We have to come to places like this and win.

"Up until the last three weeks this is a group of players that have been receiving great plaudits for most aspects of our game, and it's great when things are going well for you.

"But a measure of a team is in adversity and how you react to adversity and how you react to setbacks, and today several players let us down in that respect.

"I cannot accept a lack of a willingness to work hard regardless of whether we're winning or losing, whether the scoreline is 4-0 or 1-0. I can't accept that. The players have been left in no uncertain terms that I'll not accept that."
