Manchester United under huge pressure says Olympiakos boss

Olympiakos boss Michel says Champions League opponents Manchester United could buckle in their last-16 tie on Tuesday because of their domestic form.

United are 11 points adrift of the top four in the Premier League and the Spaniard thinks the pressure could affect them at the Karaiskakis Stadium.

"This kind of situation may weigh too much on their players' shoulders," said 50-year-old Michel.

"We know United are not allowed to make any mistakes due to their position."

Olympiakos goalkeeper Roy Carroll, who played for the Red Devils from 2001 to 2005 said United "look nervous" ahead of the first-leg game.

And Michel is optimistic about the Greek side's chances of pulling off a shock win after they progressed through a challenging group containing Paris St-Germain, Benfica and Anderlecht.

In domestic competition they are also enjoying a good season. Olympiakos are top and unbeaten in the Greek Super League and have only lost twice at home in the league in four years.

"People say it'll be a very demanding tie and that's true. They are favourites, but nothing says we can't beat Manchester United," Michel added.

"Their Premier League situation could be an incentive to them or it could be a burden on their shoulders. We know there's lots at stake for Manchester United in this match."

The second leg of the tie takes place at Old Trafford on 19 March.
