Oxford City deducted three points for fielding ineligible player

Oxford City have been deducted three points for using an ineligible player.

The Conference North side, who say the problem came about because of an administrative error, confirmed the league's decision on Monday.

Midfielder Liam Malone played during the club's 2-0 win over Worcester City on 8 December, one of only five wins for the club so far this season.

However, he should have been suspended having picked up five bookings, and the club now drop to 21st in the league.

Fellow Conference North side Harrogate fielded three ineligible players earlier this season and were given the same three-point punishment in September.
