Irish Premiership: Ards 2-2 Warrenpoint

Ards appear destined to finish bottom of the Irish Premiership after Friday's draw at home to Warrenpoint Town.

The result leaves Niall Currie's men still eights points adrift with just four games remaining.

Ards hit back with two equalisers after Warrenpoint had taken the lead, firstly through a Darren King header and then a Marty Havern penalty.

Andy Mitchell's shot made it 1-1 and a James Knowles penalty on 80 minutes levelled the game for a second time.

It means Ards, who have won only six matches all season, realistically need to win their four remaining fixtures and hope other results go in their favour.

Ards were promoted last season as winners of Championship One, ahead of Warrenpoint who were promoted after a play-off.

The hosts had a poor first half against Town who led at the interval thanks to King's 21st-minute opener.

Sloppy home defending let a free-kick by Stephen Hughes bounce all the way through to King at the far post and he headed past keeper Alan Blayney.

Ards equalised in the 54th minute when, following a Ross Arthurs assist, Mitchell fired a low shot into the corner.

Warrenpoint regained the lead when Ruairi Devlin was fouled in the box and Havern tucked away the spot-kick.

Ards got a spot-kick themselves 10 minutes from time with Knowles converting after David Armstrong had been brought down.
