Warrenpoint Town trounce Dungannon Swifts 4-0 to ensure that Ards finish bottom of the Irish Premiership.

Warrenpoint Town condemned Ards to bottom position in the Premiership and probable relegation by trouncing Dungannon Swifts at Stangmore Park.

Stephen Hughes opened the scoring on eight minutes with a 20-yard shot and Marty Havern made it 2-0 with a cool finish on 27 after slick build-up play.

Daniel Hughes slipped the ball under the goalkeeper for the third two minutes later.

Stephen Moan fired a left foot shot into the corner in the 67th minute.

Moan combined well with Havern to set up the scoring opportunity.

The Swifts squandered two first-half chances when Jonathan Parr saved a Marc Brolly header and Gary Liggett was off-target with a header.

Warrenpoint now lie 10 points ahead of Ards with just three sets of fixtures remaining.

Niall Currie's side will be relegated if the eventual Championship One winners have applied for a licence to play in the top flight.

Warrenpoint are just one point behind 10th-placed Ballinamallard as they attempt to avoid a potential promotion/relegation play-off.
