Ryan Giggs says success will return to Manchester United

Ryan Giggs told Manchester United fans success will return to Old Trafford in an emotional speech at the champions' final home game of the season.

Player-interim manager Giggs, 40, was speaking after the 3-1 win over Hull, which could turn out to be his farewell appearance after 963 games at the club.

Giggs, who is yet to clarify his United future, came on during the second half.

"It has been tough this season but the good times will come back soon," said the Welshman.

"Over the years we've been spoilt with the success we've had but you've always supported the team and the staff and I'm sure in the coming years we'll bring you more success."

Eighteen-year-old debutant James Wilson scored twice and Robin van Persie wrapped up the victory after Matty Fryatt had pulled one back for the FA Cup finalists.

United still have an outside chance of securing a place in next season's Europa League, but will need to beat Southampton and hope that Tottenham lose at home to Aston Villa on Sunday.

Clarification on their vacant manager's position does appear likely before the last-day trip to Southampton, even if there has still been no public comment from the Red Devils to speculation that Louis van Gaal's appointment is imminent.

Giggs is relaxed about his own United future, suggesting it could be a couple of weeks before the managerial situation is resolved.

"I have not spoken to [executive vice-chairman] Ed Woodward for the last couple of days so nothing has changed since Saturday," said Giggs.

"You lot - the media - want to see something happen. I am just concentrating on doing my best for the club, whether it be on the pitch or off it.

"It could be the next few days, it could be the next couple of weeks."

Although it is certain skipper Nemanja Vidic has made his final Old Trafford appearance for the club, long-serving trio Giggs, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra are yet to discover whether they will be offered contract extensions.

"I am pretty relaxed," he said.

"I expect it is the same with Rio and Patrice. It is not as if they are young players. If they carry on, they carry on, if they leave, they leave.

"New players are going to come in anyway so I think it will get sorted for the three of us in the next couple of weeks."

Vidic believes Giggs has the credentials to lead United as a manager in the future, adding: "It is up to the board to decide but Ryan has a real talent to be the manager and a good manager.

"If he is not successful this time then in the future he should be considered to be manager of this club."
