Man City: Samir Nasri signs five-year contract extension

Samir Nasri has won two Premier League titles and the League Cup in his time at Manchester City

Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri has signed a new five-year contract with the club.

The 27-year-old had a year left on his existing deal, which he signed when joining City from Arsenal in 2011.

A verbal agreement was reached before Nasri, who was not selected for France's World Cup squad, departed for the summer break.

"I'm really happy to have signed this contract and commit my future to City," he told the club's website.

"I'm 27 now and if you listen to some of the best managers in the game, they say that a midfield player's best years are between 27 and 30 so I hope that I will give my best years to City."

Nasri scored the first goal in City's final-day victory over West Ham that secured them the title

Nasri suffered a loss of form during Roberto Mancini's final season in charge of the club but has been rejuvenated under Manuel Pellegrini and scored seven goals in 34 appearances last term as City regained their Premier League crown.

"It took me time to adjust to living in Manchester because when you move here from London, it is a big change, but last year everything was perfect," Nasri added.

"I enjoyed my football and I love living in Manchester, feel very settled and I think that showed on the pitch.

"That's why I've agreed this new contract - because I feel very much at home. Our supporters have been right behind me and it gives me the confidence to play my best game.

"Now I'm looking forward to the new season and to defending our title again."
