Wigan Athletic: Eric Black returns as first team coach

Former Scotland striker Black was assistant manager at Wigan from 2007-2009

Eric Black has been named as Wigan Athletic's new first team coach, with Graham Barrow confirmed as assistant to Latics manager Uwe Rosler.

Former Aberdeen and Scotland striker Black, 50, was assistant to Steve Bruce at Wigan between 2007 and 2009.

He took over as assistant manager at Blackburn Rovers in 2012 before joining Blackpool as an advisor to caretaker boss Barry Ferguson last season.

Barrow, a former Wigan player, has been on their coaching staff since 2009.

He played over 200 games for the Latics and managed the club between 1994 and 1995 before returning to the coaching staff under previous manager Roberto Martinez in 2009.

Black has worked as a coach at Celtic, Birmingham City and Sunderland, as well as managing Motherwell and Coventry City.

Wigan have made a number of changes since losing their Championship semi-final play-off to Queens Park Rangers in May.

Newcastle full-back James Tavernier and Osasuna striker Oriol Riera have joined the squad, while Mike Pollitt has retired from playing and been named goalkeeping coach.
