Cardiff City: Danny Gabbidon wants second game as caretaker

Danny Gabbidon says he and fellow Cardiff City caretaker manager Scott Young would like another chance to take charge of the Championship side.

The pair oversaw Saturday's 2-2 draw at Derby after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's departure and Gabbidon would now like to prepare the players for Tuesday's League Cup tie with Bournemouth.

"After that you just want another taste of it I suppose," Gabbidon said.

"But it's one game at the moment and we'll just have to see what happens."

Goals from Aron Gunnarsson and Peter Whittingham seemed set to give the caretaker bosses a dream start, but Derby fought back to equalise through Jordon Ibe and Craig Bryson.

Despite watching Cardiff squander their two-goal advantage, Gabbidon was pleased with the players' performances at Pride Park.

"If we could get the lads playing like that every week then it would be fantastic," added Wales centre-back Gabbidon, 35, who was signed as a player-coach.

"It's been a real eye-opener with the stuff we've had to do, the detail that goes into planning a game is amazing.

"It's been nerve-wracking at times with getting thrown in the deep end a little bit, but we've enjoyed every minute of it.

"To see the boys go out there and perform for us like that and get a decent result is all we can ask for."

Leyton Orient manager Russell Slade and former Celtic boss Neil Lennon are two of the names linked with the vacant Cardiff post.

But Gabbidon says he and Young will now wait to hear from owner Vincent Tan whether their services will be required on the sidelines against the Cherries.

"We're waiting for the call from Tan Sri, so we'll see what he has to say," Gabbidon said.

"We were told we were taking over for the game [against Derby] and whatever happens after is up to the chairman, so we'll look forward to hearing from him I'm sure."
