Newport goalkeeper Joe Day dives full length to deny Shrewsbury

Peterborough United goalkeeper Joe Day is set to have his loan at Newport County extended until December.

The 24-year-old has impressed since arriving at Rodney Parade at the end of August on a four-week loan.

Newport boss Justin Edinburgh says they have agreed an extension with Day's parent club and expect to have the new loan confirmed soon.

"That's in advance stages, we've agreed everything with Peterborough now," Edinburgh said.

"His original loan runs out on Tuesday so we'll extend that as long as we can... that takes us up till the beginning of December

"Joe's happy, Peterborough are happy and obviously so are we."

Day was in top form on Saturday as Newport claimed a 0-0 draw at Shrewsbury, pulling off a string of saves to keep County's goal intact.

"He's made good saves when he's called upon, but I thought all 10 players in front of him played their part," Edinburgh added.

Day signed for Peterborough in May 2011 and started his career at Rushden & Diamonds in 2007 where Edinburgh gave him his debut.

Andrew Hughes was sent off at Shrewsbury on Saturday, but Newport have decided not to appeal against the decision.

It means the defender will be suspended for Tuesday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash against Swindon at Rodney Parade.
