Wigan Athletic: Uwe Rosler wants refereeing consistency

Wigan manager Uwe Rosler has called for refereeing consistency after Monday's Championship defeat by Ipswich.

The Latics lost at the DW Stadium for the first time this season and have now gone three games without a win.

"You witnessed Premier League games on Sunday and saw what sort of yellow cards they are giving then you see what is not given in our game," said Rosler.

"You are sometimes watching two different sports and that should not be the case."

Mick McCarthy's Ipswich received two yellow cards during the match - for Tyrone Mings and Christophe Berra - while the Latics were shown none, despite making five more fouls.

The 45-year-old added: "We had problems with the physical approach from Ipswich. They roughed us up and sometimes with illegal methods.

"I would have liked the referee to have put more control over the game - it is not an excuse, we have to learn to cope with what is thrown at us.

"The goals were unnecessary, but saying that, Ipswich came with a gameplan and they succeeded."

Goals from Luke Hyam and former Wigan striker Conor Sammon put the visitors in control, and they held off a late fightback from the Latics after Martyn Waghorn's finish in the closing stages.

After being knocked out in the Championship play-offs by QPR last season, as well as reaching the FA Cup semi-final, the Latics sit 17th in the league after eight games this term.

"Football is a results-orientated business and we can't make excuses," Rosler told BBC Radio Manchester.

"We want to go up, but obviously now we already have a big deficit on points.

"We showed last year this group of players is capable of putting a run together of a number of winning games, and that puts you right back in the picture."
