Ipswich Town have signed former West Ham midfielder Jack Collison on a short-term deal until late December.

The 25-year-old played 15 times for the Hammers last season - before being released in the summer - and had loan spells at Bournemouth and Wigan.

He spent much of pre-season training with Ipswich, but boss Mick McCarthy had given up hope of signing the Wales international, external two weeks ago.

Fellow Championship side Birmingham City were also interested in Collison.

After joining West Ham from Cambridge United in 2007, he went on to feature 121 times for the London club.

As well as going on trial with Ipswich and Birmingham this summer, he also played in warm-up matches for QPR.
