Colin Cooper resigned as manager of Hartlepool after a 3-0 defeat by Carlisle

Colin Cooper resigned as manager of Hartlepool after a damaging home defeat by improving Carlisle.

Keith Curle's Cumbrians continued their resurgence, with Steven Rigg opening the scoring from close range.

Hartlepool looked for an equaliser but Stephen Elliott's first goal for Carlisle, fired into the bottom corner, ended the game as a contest.

Mark Beck tapped in a simple third goal to send Hartlepool bottom of League Two.

Confirmation of Cooper's departure came around an hour after the full-time whistle, while Carlisle have won back-to-back games under recently-appointed Curle and leapfrog Pools into 23rd spot.
