Wilfried Bony: Swansea striker does not expect January transfer

Wilfried Bony became the first Swansea striker to score in the Premier League this season.

Swansea striker Wilfred Bony does not expect to be a January transfer target because of his likely involvement in to the Africa Cup of Nations (CAF).

The tournament runs from January to February, with players missing up to a month of domestic football.

Despite being linked with a move away from the Swans in July, Ivory Coast star Bony, 25, believes no team would be interested in him at that time.

"If called for it I will go, so I don't think any team will buy me," said Bony.

"I don't know, but I don't think so... because there is the Africa Cup [of Nations]."

The Ivorian scored 16 league goals last season after joining Swansea for a club-record fee of £12m in 2012.

He scored his first goal of this season in a 2-2 draw with Newcastle United, but he believes that he was unlucky not to score more.

"There were two chances and two good saves from the goalkeeper [Tim Krul] that cost us the three points," said Bony.

"If the goalkeeper didn't make two saves, it would have been a hat-trick."

Tim Krul made two near-identical saves to deny Bony, both times diving low to his left to push the ball past the post.

Swansea manager Garry Monk told BBC Radio Wales that he was "disappointed" the Swans failed to win and stopped short of praising Bony for breaking his duck.

"It's good of course, you need your strikers to score goals," said Monk.

"But that's not my main concern. My main concern is that the team win games.

"We created enough chances. The keeper made some very good saves on a couple of his [Bony's] chances.

"We never quite did enough to get away from them."
