Southport appoint Gary Brabin as manager after Martin Foyle exit

Brabin previously played for and managed Southport during his career

Conference side Southport have named Gary Brabin as their new manager after parting company with Martin Foyle.

Foyle, 51, replaced John Coleman in May after leaving financially-troubled Hereford but won just three of 14 league matches with the club.

Brabin had a two-month spell in charge of the Sandgrounders in 2008 before moving on to Cambridge and then Luton.

"I'm delighted to be back here and am very impressed with the training facilities at Edge Hill," said Brabin.

The 43-year-old continued: "I know all the people here at the club, especially chairman Charlie Clapham, and am looking forward to meeting the supporters again."

Former midfielder Brabin, who played for Southport in 2006, was last a manager at Luton but was sacked by the Hatters in April 2012 following a poor run of form.

Foyle and his assistant Andy Porter departed following Saturday's 5-2 loss at home to Woking, which left Southport in the Conference relegation zone.

"The club would like to thank Martin and Andy for their efforts, but it has not worked out and we both have to move on," said a club statement.
