Russell Slade: Cardiff City boss warns players success 'will hurt'

New manager Russell Slade believes Cardiff City can make the Championship play-offs, but warned "it will hurt."
The 53-year-old ex-Leyton Orient boss was appointed on Monday after a protracted legal dispute.
Slade believes the Bluebirds' players have the talent to recover from 15th place in the Championship.
"Can we do it? Yes we can because there's still 35 games to go. But we need results and we need to get them now," he said.
"That [play-offs] would be the target, but we have to believe and we have to be positive."
Cardiff have won just three of their 11 matches in the Championship after being relegated following one season in the Premier League.

"Greatness in any team or great performance isn't a gift, it's hard work. And that's what I'll be preaching to the players. So any success will come at a price. It will hurt and it will be hard, there's no doubt about that." |
Slade's appointment followed the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who had been in charge since January.
Speaking on the Sport Wales television programme, Slade said any success will only come after hard work.
"The talent is there, that's undoubted, and technically there are some very good players at the football club," he said.
"But that doesn't necessarily guarantee you success.
"Greatness in any team or great performance isn't a gift, it's hard work. And that's what I'll be preaching to the players.
"So any success will come at a price. It will hurt and it will be hard, there's no doubt about that.
"And that's something that we've got to address in terms of a team, which is probably where we're lacking.
"We've got the individuals but in terms of the team, in terms of partnerships on the pitch we're probably a good distance away from where we need to be."
Slade also confessed that he feels the squad of 31 players is probably too big, and would not rule out offering some out on loan to other clubs.
However, he claimed to have an open mind on the squad and said fringe players under previous managers have the chance to impress him if they show the right attitude.
"It's a fresh beginning for one or two," he said.
