Guernsey FC must end 'slump', says manager Tony Vance

Guernsey FC boss Tony Vance says the club must try and stop their current "slump" after a 4-1 loss at Hastings United in Isthmian League Division One.

The defeat means the Green Lions have won just once in their last six games, the worst run in the club's history.

Dominic Heaume levelled for Guernsey on 16 minutes, but Hastings scored soon after the half-time break before getting two in the final minutes.

"We've got to try and stop this slump," Vance told BBC Radio Guernsey.

Guernsey, who have a host of injuries, went to the game with just four defenders and had to play the final 35 minutes with only two on the field after full-backs Joe Alvarez and Nigel Hutton were forced off hurt.

"At the end they were picking us off at will," said Vance.

"We can stand here and feel sorry for ourselves and that those injuries are the reason, but at the end of the day they won the game."

Guernsey have slipped to 11th in the Isthmian League Division One South, 15 points off leaders Burgess Hill Town, who have two games in hand on the islanders.

"Maybe we need to turn our attentions to other things - we're not going to win the league now, there's no doubt about that," added Vance.

"But everyone's got to stick with us and we've got to stick with ourselves."
