Andy Scott: Aldershot Town boss backed by chairman Azeem

Scott was appointed Aldershot manager in February last year and has a contract until 2016

Aldershot chairman Shahid Azeem has given his backing to boss Andy Scott.

The Shots are five points above the Conference relegation zone, having won just two of their last 10 games.

"Andy has a proven track record and has been around the block. The answer is not always to get another manager in," Azeem told BBC Surrey.

"We believe in the team and I think the spirit is there. We just need confidence again and that's what Andy needs to deal with."

Scott was appointed Aldershot manager in February 2013 but was unable to save the club from relegation from League Two that year.

The former Brentford and Rotherham boss signed a new three-year contract last year and, following a 10-point deduction for entering administration, the Shots avoided a second successive relegation last season on goal difference.

The Hampshire side have 20 points from their opening 16 league games of the new campaign.

"It has been challenging," Azeem said. "Let's be blunt about it - we have not been scoring a lot of goals.

"There is a long way to go. We had a spell last year where we had a number games where it was a real bad period.

"We will come strong. We are going to work hard with Andy and he and the team know what they have got to do."
