Cardiff City: Russell Slade receives Vincent Tan approval

Manager Russell Slade revealed he was congratulated by Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan following the 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest.

Federico Macheda and Peter Whittingham's first half goals secured victory in Slade's first game.

Slade was Tan's personal choice and the ex-Leyton Orient boss spoke to the Malaysian businessman after the game.

"Yes, he has been in touch with me. He rang me straight after the game. He watched it on television," said Slade.

"I think he was slightly pleased."

Slade's appointment as Cardiff City manager had been delayed following a legal dispute between the club and former employers Leyton Orient.

The 54-year-old was finally confirmed as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's successor on 6 October but had to wait until after the international break for his first game in charge.

Goals from Macheda and Whittingham gave the Bluebirds a commanding 2-0 half-time lead at Cardiff City Stadium.

Forest improved in the second half and halved the deficit with Britt Assombalonga's goal a minute from time.

But Cardiff stood firm to claim only their second victory in nine Championship matches.

"It was worth the wait. It has been frustrating, and there was also the frustration of not having eight players over the last two weeks due to the international break," Slade added.

"But the players worked exceptionally hard.

"I hope people saw a bit of a difference today and a bit of a structure and a game plan which we can develop going forward.

"The first half was really pleasing. We looked a threat going forward, we created a few opportunities and we were nice and compact without the ball.

"We hung on in there well during the last few minutes, which were a bit scary, and it is a great result for the football club."
