Cardiff City can still win promotion to the Premier League despite their slow start to the season, new manager Russell Slade says.

In Slade's first game in charge, Cardiff ended Nottingham Forest's unbeaten start to the Championship season with a 2-1 home win.

Despite a poor start to the campaign under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Slade believes anything is possible.

"We haven't written anything off," he said.

"How I looked at it was first 90 minutes, one game at a time, one week at a time and we try and build up little bricks and a little bit of momentum.

"That's given us a platform and it's given us something to build on and that's what we'll try to do."

Cardiff are 12th in the Championship table - eight points behind leaders Watford and four points away from sixth-placed Ipswich Town, who they host on Tuesday.

Federico Macheda and Peter Whittingham's first-half goals secured victory over Stuart Pearce's side, who netted a late consolation through Britt Assombalonga.

Slade, who was finally confirmed as Solskjaer's successor on 6 October, was pleased with his side's character to hold on to beat Forest.

"Certainly, the first-half performance was really pleasing on the eye. We got the ball forward and we created chances," Slade said.

"The second half was going to hurt and I told them it would hurt and we would have to dig in and find a way to win the game.

"It's always disappointing to concede a goal, which we were, but the important thing is we got the three points.

"They've shown the sort of qualities that I'm looking for.

"We know they've got technical ability, but to start to put an ethos together about what the club stands for and what we're about as a group… is the sort of quality that brings success to clubs."
