Cardiff City win over Forest gives 'belief' says Aron Gunnarsson

Aron Gunnarsson says Cardiff City will go into Tuesday night's Championship game at home to Ipswich with renewed belief after beating Nottingham Forest.

The 2-1 win over previously unbeaten Forest was new Cardiff boss Russell Slade's first match in charge following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's departure.

"It gives us belief. A team comes here second in the division and we had to perform," midfielder Gunnarsson said.

"Tuesday's game will be another hard one but we're all up for it."

Slade, who left Leyton Orient to join the Bluebirds, has said Cardiff can still win promotion despite their slow start to the season.

The win over Forest lifted them into 12th place and Iceland international Gunnarsson says the players are backing their new boss.

"The players are showing faith in him obviously and want it to work under him... this was his first game in charge and I think everyone was pleased with our performance. We'll just have to take it from there," Gunnarsson added.

"In this league you have to be consistent and we haven't been... you have to be ruthless and consistent and if that works you'll be up there by the end of the year.

"We needed to lift the players just to get a win under our belt... we showed a lot of team spirit, which is good and only positive and hopefully we'll take it further."
