Alan Hutton's participation in Scotland's upcoming double-header is in doubt after he was ruled out of Aston Villa's meeting with Tottenham Hotspur.

The full-back, who will turn 30 in November, has a sprained ankle.

Scotland host Republic of Ireland in a Euro 2016 qualifier on 14 November and then take on visitors England in a friendly four days later.

Coach Gordon Strachan is expected to name his Scotland squad for the two matches next week.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert said: "The Scotland game will be touch and go.

"I know we've got a fortnight roughly to go, but it depends how quick a healer he is.

"Alan sprained his ankle in training, on the Friday before the QPR game. There was no major tackle."

Hutton, capped 43 times, has started the opening three qualifiers of the Scots' qualification campaign, which have produced a defeat by Germany, a win over Georgia and a draw with Poland.

Ireland have seven points with an unbeaten record in Group D.
