Walsall player-coach Dean Holden is in talks over moving to Oldham Athletic to become their first-team coach, reports BBC Radio Manchester.
The 35-year-old moved to the Saddlers in 2012 and signed a new deal a year later which also covered his development coaching responsibilities.
Holden previously played for Oldham, making 125 appearances over four years.
Oldham boss Lee Johnson needs a new first-team coach after Paul Murray left to become Hartlepool manager.
Salford-born Holden started his career at Bolton and has also played for Peterborough, Falkirk, Shrewsbury, Rotherham and Chesterfield and Rochdale.
After signing his player-coach deal in 2013, Holden did not feature for Walsall last season but has made five appearances so far this term.
