Hearts defender Callum Paterson has been called into the Scotland squad for the games against the Republic of Ireland and England.

The right-back has been drafted in by boss Gordon Strachan to replace the injured Phil Bardsley.

Stoke full-back Bardsley went off after 10 minutes of his side's 2-1 win at Tottenham on Sunday.

Paterson, 20, has played for Scotland at various youth levels, but this is his first call-up for the top team.

The news comes after Derby County's Johnny Russell was drafted into the Scotland pool for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Ireland and the friendly against England, because of an injury to his club team-mate Craig Bryson.
