Bayern Munich prepared for Tuesday's Champions League tie at Manchester City with a clinical win over Hoffenheim.

The German champions are now seven points clear at the top of the Bundesliga having won nine and drawn three of their 12 games.

Mario Gotze drilled in the opener and Robert Lewandowski headed home Arjen Robben's cross to double the advantage.

Adam Szalai was sent off for the visitors before Robben scored a chip and Sebastian Rode added a late fourth.

Rode's first goal for Bayern since his summer move from Eintracht Frankfurt was assisted by Bastian Schweinsteiger, who was making his first appearance since the World Cup final following a knee injury.

Bayern, who have won all four Champions League group games so far, will eliminate Manchester City from the competition if they win at the Etihad in midweek.
