Newport moved up to seventh in the League Two table

Newport County extended their unbeaten record to eight games in League Two with victory at Carlisle United.

Yan Klukowski headed home Chris Zebroski's cross from the edge of area to give Newport a ninth-minute lead.

Ismail Yakubu bravely bundled the ball over the line from close range from a corner before Brad Potts replied for Carlisle.

Substitute Shaun Jeffers added a third for Newport prior to David Amoo's stoppage-time consolation.

Newport move up to seventh and into the play-offs places, while Carlisle suffered their sixth defeat in eight games.

Newport County manager Justin Edinburgh told BBC Radio Wales:

"We got an excellent start to the game and obviously scoring very quickly in the second half but in the end we made hard work of it.

"But I thought it was another excellent performance away from home. We certainly work hard for one another.

"Although the scoreline was 3-2, I thought we were more comfortable than that."
