Tranmere manager Micky Adams wants his first league win at the club to be the standard for the rest of the season.

Adams, 53, watched his side beat Portsmouth 3-1 with goals from Shamir Fenelon, James Rowe and Max Power.

It was Rovers' first win in League Two since August and the first for ex-Port Vale boss Adams following his move to Prenton Park in place of Rob Edwards.

"We've set our standards now and now we need to kick on," he told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"When you're a new manager, you want that first league victory as soon as you can.

"My record at the moment is pretty good I think, and if we hadn't got a win today we move onto next week."

Rovers did beat Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup and Bury in the Football League Trophy, but a first league victory under Adams moved Tranmere up to 15 points, just three away from safety.

Adams, who resigned from his position at Port Vale in September, wants to use the momentum gathered in their upcoming games.

"We're not too far away from the pack that we need to chase," he added. "We've got some big games coming up, starting next week at Oxford.

"Since I've been at the club I've never doubted the commitment of the players. Whether we've been good enough is another matter."
