Celtic: Ronny Deila insists players would be up for Legia repeat

Celtic manager Ronny Deila believes it will be a "special game" if his side draw Legia Warsaw in the Europa League knockout phase.

The teams could be paired in Monday's draw, with Celtic having lost 6-1 when the sides met in Champions League qualifying, only for the Poles to be kicked out of the competition for fielding an ineligible player.

"They are a good team," said Deila.

"The players will be up for that if we get them."

Speaking after watching Celtic beat St Mirren 4-1 in Scottish Premiership action on Sunday, the Norwegian did admit he would prefer to avoid Legia Warsaw.

However, he reckons every team in the draw is "beatable".

Deila knows his team must sharpen up in front of goal, though, having passed up plenty of chances in the home win over the Buddies.

Scott Brown hit a double, James Forrest was also on target and Anthony Stokes completed the scoring, after Sean Kelly had levelled for St Mirren.

"It's hard sitting here and being critical when you're winning 4-1 and could have scored 10, but again that shows the potential in the team," said Deila.

"We are creating chances and that is positive. Also some of the attacks are the way I want to attack, with opposite movements and three players involved.

"There were some good attacks and we are playing more forward now as well. There is also a quick reaction to winning the ball back.

"There were a lot of pleasing things, but again I was thinking 'is this enough? Should we be scoring more goals?'.

"That's something we have to work on if we are going to improve. We need to be more clinical."

Deila also insisted Kris Commons' absence from the team on Sunday was nothing to do with the fact he has yet to agree a new contract.

"Today we played with the team we thought was the best and we gave the young boy Liam [Henderson] some minutes and that was important as well, it shows it's possible to come from the youths into the first team," the manager added.

"We're looking to give the youngsters some chances now, especially when we're 4-1 up and controlling the game."
