Former St Mirren player Billy Stark has indicated he would be interested in becoming the Paisley club's new manager.

Stark, 58, described the post as "a good job in Scottish football".

Tommy Craig left St Mirren on Tuesday and player-coach and caretaker Gary Teale is keen on the manager's role.

"I'm itching to get an opportunity and any job that comes up, you treat it on its own merits," Stark told BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound programme.

And, when asked if his interest would be made known to St Mirren's board, he replied: "Yeah, hopefully."

Most recently in charge of Scotland's Under-21 side, Stark has previously managed Greenock Morton, St Johnstone and Queen's Park.

He left his job with the Scottish FA last month after over six years in charge of the under-21s.

Captain and striker Steven Thompson has admitted he would find it difficult to turn down the chance to manage St Mirren.

Sunday's 4-1 defeat by Celtic leaves the Buddies a point adrift at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership.
