Brendan Rodgers: Liverpool signings possible in January

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says it is possible the club will strengthen in January but refused to comment on links with Petr Cech and Fernando Torres.

The Reds, who spent £117m in the summer, are reported to be interested in former striker Torres and goalkeeper Cech, both Chelsea players.

"If there is a possibility that we can strengthen in January, we will look at that," Rodgers said.

"There will always be speculation, but I won't comment on any players."

Liverpool have struggled to score goals this season following the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona and ongoing injury problems for Daniel Sturridge.

Strikers Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini have managed just four goals between them so far.

Torres, who was sold to Chelsea by Liverpool for a then British record £50m in January 2011, is currently on loan at AC Milan and the 30-year-old has also been linked with a move to boyhood club Atletico Madrid.

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has been dropped "indefinitely" by Rodgers after a poor of run of form and replaced by Brad Jones.

Cech, 32, has become second choice at Chelsea behind Thibaut Courtois, although Rodgers has been satisfied with Jones' efforts so far.

"Brad is in the team at the moment and has done well," Rodgers added. "He is consistent right the way through. You need your number two goalkeeper to be loyal and work well when he comes in."
