Swansea City can cope without star players - Angel Rangel

Swansea defender Angel Rangel says his team can cope without Wilfried Bony, Ki Sung-Yueng and Jefferson Montero.

Top goal-scorer Bony and midfielder Ki go on international duty after the New Year's Day game against QPR.

In-form winger Montero is unavailable for a month because of a hamstring strain, while midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has been suspended for four games.

"[They are] big misses for us, we know that. But the depth in the squad is good enough," said Rangel.

"We've shown that in some games when we've made six, seven changes and we've won games," he said.

"That shows you that every boy is ready and if injuries hopefully keep away from us, we can start the second half of the season in a good way and get some points."

Shelvey, 22, has been banned for four matches after the club opted to accept a charge of violent conduct by the Football Association after he caught Liverpool's Emre Can with his arm during Monday's 4-1 defeat at Anfield.

Bony, 26, will spend at least three weeks with Ivory Coast on African Cup of Nations duty in Equatorial Guinea and will miss home games against West Ham and Chelsea on 10 January and 17 January.

South Korean Ki will also be absent from those games, playing in the Asian Cup in Australia.

Bony and Ki could miss more games if their nations progress to the final rounds of the tournaments.

Ecuadorian international Montero, 25, limped off during the Swans' 1-0 victory over Aston Villa on Boxing Day and is set to miss at least four league games, including the loss to Liverpool.

The Swans slipped to ninth place after that defeat, but Rangel is delighted with his side's start to the season.

"It's a great first half of the season. It's brilliant, 28 points at this stage, top ten.

"All we have to do now is maintain the levels we have had in most of the games we have had in the first half of the season."

"It's not going to be easy, we know teams are going to sign new players and they're going to strengthen their squads.

"Hopefully we'll do too and I think so far we've seen that the squad is strong enough.

"We've played well enough to be up there where we are now. We have to keep going."

Swans manager Garry Monk said his side "made too many mistakes" against Liverpool and Rangel is glad to have the opportunity to put things right against QPR.

"That's the beauty of the Christmas period. You have to move on to the next one. Hopefully we can put things right," he said.

QPR have taken 14 points from their last six home games, a run of form which has seen Harry Redknapp's side move from the foot of the Premier League to 15th place in the table.

"[It's] another tough game away from home against a team that at home are really strong," said Rangel.

"Hopefully now we can start the second half [of the season] in a good manner and we can go to Loftus Road, get some points and get back to winning ways."
