Northampton Town: Ricky Holmes and Brendan Moloney join on loan

Northampton Town have signed Portsmouth midfielder Ricky Holmes and Yeovil defender Brendan Moloney on loan.

Holmes, 27, joins for one month and 25-year-old Moloney has signed until the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Swansea defender Daniel Alfei's season-long Cobblers loan has been terminated after 14 games.

Loan deals for Leicester's Ryan Watson, Tottenham's Jordan Archer, Fleetwood's Stewart Murdoch and Oxford United's Tom Newey have now all expired.

Irishman Moloney signed for League One Yeovil in July but has so far made just four league starts for Gary Johnson's side.

Northampton boss Chris Wilder told BBC Radio Northampton: "He (Moloney) is an attacking full-back and a good all-round player.

"He has played in the Championship so I'm expecting him to come in until the end of the season and sort out that problem position (right-back) that we've had.

"The two occupants of that position have not done enough, consistently, so we have to look and we have to make changes."

Former Barnet man Holmes signed for Portsmouth in June 2013 and has made 62 appearances for the League Two club.

"He's a winner," added Wilder. "He has energy, desire to get in the box and desire to create.

"I don't think either of our wide lads have got into the box enough, and we need competition there.

"He's a good player in this league and finds himself not in the picture at Portsmouth, so we've moved quickly."

The two signings come shortly after the club announced a loan move for Jason Taylor from Cheltenham Town.

Wilder also revealed that defender Kelvin Langmead has turned down a loan move to a Conference club, while Ricky Ravenhill is in talks about a possible move away from Sixfields.
